Comedian Aisling Bea stars in Home Alone remake Home Sweet Home Alone alongside Archie Yates and Rob Delaney
Aisling Bea has explained why her character in Home Sweet Home Alone speaks with an English accent after people took issue with it.
The comedian had the perfect response after fans watched the trailer and questioned why she didn’t use her normal Irish voice.
“Hello, to everybody that has been wondering online why I have an English accent in the new Home Alone movie: it’s because the character’s English,” she said.
“She’s from England and if she was from England and she spoke with an Irish accent then that would be quite strange. But she’s English. If she was Australian she’d probably have an Australian accent.”
Aisling added: “If she was from Texas then she’d probably have a Southern accent. If she was from Scotland then she might have a Scottish accent.
“If she was Irish she would speak very much like I do because I am from Ireland. But this character is not from Ireland… she’s from England, and so that’s why I’m doing the accent.”
So her character has an English accent because she’s English? Strange.
Her response was shared in a clip on her Twitter page, with Aisling captioning it: “It is also not a true crime documentary about a Mother who leaves her son alone to fend for himself, because if it was I would be in jail.”
The trailer for the Home Alone remake was posted on Tuesday to mixed reactions from fans who grew up watching the original movie.
Premiering on Disney Plus in November, Home Sweet Home Alone stars Jojo Rabbit’s Archie Yates, Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Pete Holmes, Kenan Thompson and Chris Parnell.
Aisling stars as Carol Mercer, mother to Archie’s character Max, who fends off thieves who are trying to break into his family’s house.
Like the original, his family forgot him at home when they left to go on holiday.
Home Alone icon Devin Ratray is also reviving his role as Buzz McCallister.
The 1990 classic Christmas film starred Macaulay Culkin as young troublemaker Kevin McAllister who was forced to defend his home from two thieves.
While it seems to feature more of the usual slapstick booby traps and kid-friendly stunts, fans of the original were disappointed to discover that Macaulay wasn’t making an appearance in the reboot.
The actor took to Twitter to confirm he wouldn’t be in the Disney+ movie, but said he wished “all involved the best of luck”.
