Dannii Minogue reveals how her sister Kylie’s breast cancer battle shattered their family

Dannii Minogue has discussed her sister Kylie’s battle with breast cancer and how it impacted their family.

The singer, 50, told The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show podcast how grateful she is to have the chance to grow older after watching her beloved sister and friend battle cancer.

‘My big like moment where it really made me think about it and I’ve thought about it every day since was my sister was sick with cancer. We didn’t know if she would get through it. It was a terrifying time,’ she said.

‘My friend in London had cancer and then another best friend got cancer and she passed away from it. Very young. It was horrible and from that moment onwards it really did upset me when I would hear someone say something negative about getting older, like you have another day on this planet.’

‘Yes, you might have another wrinkle, but whatever you’ve got to enjoy every second of this precious life that you’ve been given,’ Dannii said.

Kylie was just 36 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005.

At the time the singer was preparing for a world tour and was happily in a relationship with French actor Olivier Martinez.

The Can’t Get You Out of My Head singer sought treatment immediately, and in doing so was forced to cancel the remaining dates of her Showgirl: Greatest Hits world tour and pull out of UK’s Glastonbury festival.

Her sister, singer and presenter Dannii, thanked fans for their well wishes at the time on behalf of her older sister.

After a partial mastectomy and rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, Kylie was given the all-clear the following year.

In 2012, she told of how the experience had allowed her to connect with fans battling the disease themselves.

‘Women come up to me in the street and just start talking to me about what they are going through, how they are on tamoxifen (a cancer treatment drug) and its making them feel terrible.’

‘I feel very close to every one of them and I think they do to me, it’s not about anything else but what we’ve all been through,’ she told the Daily Mail.
