Dannii Minogue has opened up on how sister Kylie’s battle with breast cancer in 2005 affected her too..
The 50-year-old admitted she is grateful to still have her big sister in her life after her battle with the disease.
Speaking on The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show, the former X Factor judge said: “My big like moment where it really made me think about it and I’ve thought about it every day since was my sister was sick with cancer. We didn’t know if she would get through it. It was a terrifying time.
“My friend in London had cancer and then another best friend got cancer and she passed away from it. Very young. It was horrible and from that moment onwards it really did upset me when I would hear someone say something negative about getting older, like you have another day on this planet.”
She added: “Yes, you might have another wrinkle, but whatever you’ve got to enjoy every second of this precious life that you’ve been given.”
The Can’t Get You Out of My Head singer, now 53, was only 36 when was diagnosed with breast cancer.
She was in the middle of her preparation for a world tour when she sought immediate treatment to fight the disease. It meant she had to cancel any remaining dates on her Showgirl Greatest Hits tour, which included playing at the Glastonbury Festival.
At the time, Dannii took time out to thank the family’s fans for their support and well wishes.
Kylie had a partial mastectomy and several rounds of radiation and chemotherapy before she was given the all-clear in 2006.
She explained in 2012 how the experience let her connect with fans who were also battling the disease.
She later confessed just how much the disease changed her life.
Speaking to Who Magazine in 2020, the songstress said: “Cancer changed many things forever, and then some things did not change at all.
“My view of the world was different, my destination, for the most part, was the same.”
Kylie admitted: “My illness made me even more passionate about all the people and all the things that I love. But at the same time, life as I had always known it was on hold.”
She has recently decided to leave the UK after 30 years to return back to Australia.
A source close to Kylie said: “This is something she has been thinking about for a while.
“This year, when she was in Australia for an extended period due to travel restrictions, it gave her time to think about where she wants to be based.
“Like many artists she spends much of her life on the road or travelling so she doesn’t anticipate that this is a major change for her as she’s never in one place for a long time anyway.”
