Michelle Heaton bravely documented her battle with addiction after leaving rehab in June, as she revealed she would drink a bottle of vodka and snort cocaine every day for three years
Michelle Heaton has shared a new ‘serenity prayer’ tattoo in a snap on social media as she celebrates six months sober.
In June, the 42-year-old bravely went public with her battle with addiction, and said a stint in rehab saved her life as she was days from death following years of daily drink and drug binges.
On Tuesday, she took to Instagram to reveal details of her new ink – which reads “God grant me the serenity”, and told her 299,000 followers that she had gone half a year without booze and drugs.
“It’s a celebration to myself that in a week I am six months clean and sober – and completing my #12steps,” Michelle began.
“It’s not been easy, I’ve found myself in every day pain and struggles, but that’s life,” the mum-of-two added, as she said she hadn’t had any alcohol or taken any drugs since going to rehab.
“I now accept the #serenityprayer and I now have a life beyond my wildest dreams,” she added.
The new tattoo features the words in a cursive font around a white feather on her arm, and Michelle explained it holds a special place in her heart.
“The feather represents life. The first day a feather fell to my feet as I walked into the priory. I picked it up I kept it and I have it now on my wall .. I see strength hope and faith at it when all I saw was weakness fear and doubt,” she explained.
She then told her followers to “have a great day”, and before signing off, Michelle gave those of her fans who could be struggling with addiction some useful advice.
“First step and biggest step is admitting you have a problem and asking for help!” she stated.
Michelle bravely spoke about her addiction in June, just days after leaving a stint at The Priory, and said she was days from death following a three-year drink and drug binge.
The former Liberty X singer said she had been downing up to two bottles of wine and a bottle of vodka every day since 2018, and was snorting cocaine regularly.
It took an intervention from her friends, including Katie Price, who demanded she seek immediate help at the treatment centre.
She said the years of boozing affected her career, as she was losing out on jobs she had been in the running for, as rumours of her alcoholism began to spread around the industry.

Michelle’s marriage began to suffer, as her husband Hugh Hanley thought she was having an affair due to her erratic behaviour, leaving him to virtually single-parent their two kids, daughter Faith and son AJ.
But after she completed her stint in rehab, Michelle is now in recovery, and she has vowed to stay away from booze and drugs for the rest of her life.
“I’ll never touch drugs or alcohol again because I’ll die,” she told The Sun.
“And I really do feel I deserve a second chance. I’m not going to give up on any dreams now.”
