She continued, ‘At least, how I perceived it: in which she really, really, really loves us so much, and also, she often seemed really stressed out, and at loose ends, and at her wits’ end, and exhausted, and splattered in clay.

‘Instead, I feel like it’s been the opposite of that for me. Not at all that it’s not difficult and challenging to have a newborn baby. There are so many profound challenges, but I’ve never been happier in my life. I feel like I can finally be what I want to be.’

Jenny also discussed her upcoming animated feature film Marcel the Shell with Shoes On.

They have collaborated on a sequel short film and two best-selling children’s books about Marcel as well as the big-screen adaptation.

Jenny told Marie Claire, ‘I feel like I would describe Marcel as … like I’m putting a hand down into the richest, darkest part of my psyche and trying to pull out the thing that I really want people to see about me, and what I’m like, and how I think, and what I need, and it comes out this way.

‘I really, really, really value it.’

The actress reflected on roles that she has been offered over the years and her experience on Saturday Night Live.

She told Marie Claire, ‘I felt like no one knew what the f**k to do with me.’

Jenny continued, ‘Maybe I’m not pushing for anything, but I’m not super interested in jumping up my agents’ butts. It’s so boring! That’s so boring and humiliating.’

‘I think, sure, there’s a way in which I could have probably had a really successful career doing maybe network sitcoms, and I didn’t want to do that because I have a very short attention span.

‘I don’t like the idea of being under contract for a long time. I think even after being on SNL, and just returning to the same studio every day, I was like, “‘As an animal, I don’t like this.”‘
